Mullan call can inspire others – Boss

Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock believes Matt Mullan’s international call-up for England Saxons will inspire the other rising stars at Sixways Stadium to reach their potential.

Academy product Mullan was this week named in the England Saxons Elite Player Squad to cap his stunning rugby development at Warriors.

Ruddock is delighted at the selection and believes there are other talents at Warriors that can also make the step up.

“We have the players that can achieve that status and go on to play for England,” he said.

“It is difficult to name names because we have so many youngsters, but you have to say Miles Benjamin, certainly on last year’s form, was knocking on the door of the Saxons. I am sure after his injury he will come back more enthusiastic than ever to get back to that form.

“I also believe Graham Kitchener is someone who can achieve that status. He is a fine prospect and he is only 19 so has time on his side. He has the size and skills for international rugby and, like Matt, is very dedicated to his game.

“Tom Wood has proved himself with the first team and has the size and skill level to reach that.

“You start to look through the squad and there are a number of youngsters who, if they can get regular rugby with Warriors, could knock on that door as well. People like James Collins too.

“We have a really good group of young players and hopefully Matt Mullan’s elevation will inspire them and drive them to even greater efforts to try and achieve that kind of status.”
