Ruddock demands second half surge

Mike Ruddock has called on his Worcester Warriors to mount a second half surge up the league table and in Europe – starting with the visit of Bucuresti Oaks to Sixways Stadium on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

Warriors are set to finally kick off 2009 after two recent postponements in the league, with the Round Five clash in the European Challenge Cup.

Ruddock is convinced his side can use the second half of the campaign – and number of home games in the league – to push forward in all competitions.

“There is a huge second half to the season to come and that starts with the visit of Bucuresti Oaks on Saturday,” he said.

“We are looking forward to that immensely and getting the season back on track after a couple of postponements.

“We’ve looked back through the action when we have been involved with Bucuresti in the past and also their battle with Bourgoin. They had a very tough game with the French side in Romania and Bourgoin only just won that in the last couple of minutes.

“Having seen our battles with Bourgoin, when we had to work hard with it, Bucuresti have shown they can muscle up and play full of energy and enthusiasm. They have some players who can break the line and we can’t underestimate them – that is the message to my players and we must be professional.

“There will be some rustiness in our play, because we haven’t played for some weeks. But once we overcome that our aim is to qualify from this pool and that means winning and winning well.”
