Worcester Warriors are delighted to announce Link Telecom as an official Education Partner of the ‘Warriors in the Community’ project to help deliver sports themed education across the local area.
Warriors have joined forces with the independent telecommunications group to run the Link Telecom Active Education Programme – a full-time scheme which is already helping to make a difference to the lives of schoolchildren across the region.
The Sixways Stadium club have used support from Link Telecom and Sportsmatch to recently launch two new projects under the programme called ‘Learning the Warriors’ and ‘Healthy Lifestyles’.
The five-week cross curriculum programmes are being delivered by Warriors Education Programme co-ordinator Dave Rogers, who has undertaken successful pilots at Chawson Community First School in Droitwich and St Clements CE Primary School in Worcester.
‘Learning with the Warriors’ is based around rugby and includes sections such as geography, where children learn about Worcester’s opponents across Europe, and history, looking at the multi-cultural make-up of rugby teams and the Haka, the traditional dance of the New Zealand team. Design and Technolgy is also tackled as pupils create their own rugby kits and literacy as children learn how to write match reports based on Warriors matches.
‘Healthy Lifestyles’ also looks at education through a fun and interactive rugby perspective with sections such as how to exercise, how the body works, the importance of a balanced diet, the dangers of alcohol and drugs in sport.
This term the two projects will be rolled out at Our Lady Queen of Peace RC Primary School, Hindlip CE First School, St Clements CE Primary School, Northwick Manor Primary School, Dines Green Primary School and Pitmaston Primary School.
