Boss sweating on Latham fitness

Warriors boss Mike Ruddock admits full back superstar Chris Latham is a doubt for the Guinness Premiership clash with Leicester Tigers – but he will give the Aussie ace as long as possible to make the trip to Welford Road.

Latham limped out the home league clash with Bath Rugby last weekend and has now been diagnosed with ‘turf toe’ which could rule him out of action.

“Latham looks as though he is struggling. He has got a turf toe, trauma on joint of toe,” said Ruddock.

“He wants to play, the medical boys will tell him there is no way he can, but if you give him another day or two, he is determined to be in the mix.

“I will give him as long as necessary just to see whether or not he can play. But I have to weigh up whether by actually playing him that will make him worse and put him out for a few more weeks.”

Meanwhile, Ruddock revealed fly half Joe Carlisle could not train on Tuesday due to a dead leg and Matthew Jones was also a few weeks away from a competitive return to action.

“Matthew is not quite back into rugby training,” added Ruddock. “He is running and starting to change direction. He is up to medium pain threshold and hopefully next week he will drop back into training.”
