Warrior schools Twickenham bound

Worcester Warriors hosted the EDF Energy and Wooden Spoon play-off Championship finals a Sixways Stadium on March 25 as local schools battled it out for a place at the home of English rugby – Twickenham!

In the EDF Energy competition the competition saw Nunnery Wood Primary School (Worcester heat winners), Alvechurch CE Middle School (Bromsgrove heat winners), Walkwood CE Middle School (Redditch heat winners) and St John’s Catholic Primary School (Bridgnorth heat winners) battle it out.

The tournament started off with Alvechurch narrowly beating a plucky Nunnery Wood 6-4 and they went on to contest the final with St John’s. Alvechurch eventually emerged winners 9-5 and will now go to Twickenham for the EDF Energy Cup final between Gloucester and Cardiff Blues on April 18.

The Wooden Spoon competition saw Perdiswell Primary School (Worcester heat winners W.S.), Aston Fields Middle School (Bromsgrove heat winners W.S.), Pitmaston School (Redditch heat winners) and Castlefields Primary School (Bridgnorth runners up) compete for the top honour.

In a tough competition all the teams impressed with with Pitmaston edging out Castlefields 9-8 and Perdiswell edging out Aston Fields 8-7 in the semi-finals. Pitmaston took the overall top prize by beating Perdiswell 9-7 and will now represent the Worcester Warriors at Twickenham on May 16 at the Guinness Premiership final.

On the day the youngsters were joined by first team fly half Joe Carlisle who passed on tips to the next generation of stars and presented awards to the overall winners.
