Warrior Rowers take silver at Bath time

The Worcester Warriors Rowing squad finished in a respectable silver medal position in the charity 21,000m rowathon at Bath Rugby Club on Friday.

The squad, consisting of Matt Warne, Dave Rogers and Simon Lane, were joined by Simon, a Year 7 Playing for Success student at Bath, and finished two minutes behind the winners, Bath 1, and ahead of Bath 2, Gloucester and Crystal Palace FC.

Rowing captain Matt Warne said: “It was a great team effort to get so close to winning, and importantly it has started a friendly competitive rivalry between Warriors and Bath. We have already been discussing tactics ahead of next year!”

Dave Rogers added: “It was a good day and I think we surprised ourselves by how well we did. We have raised some money for Wooden Spoon which is the most important factor.”

Simon Lane knew that the margin between first and second was only small. ”Bath had one rower who did the majority of their team metres without dropping his pace at all – that was the difference,” he said.

The team would like to thank everyone who sponsored them – Warriors were responsible for about 70% of the money raised for Wooden Spoon.
