For the second outing in 24 hours after a positive display against the Knights on the opening fixture of the pre-season campaign, a young Warriors squad led by Bowley stepped out on the Twickenham turf for a further step on their Rugby journey.
Warriors supported well by a good following from the midlands started well in their opening match against a youthful Saracens side. Warriors displayed their potential from the off as they managed to keep possession and set the tempo for the match a double in the first half with good footwork and blistering pace to take the Warriors to a strong first half lead. Saracens kept in touch with scores from Tirrell and Hearns but Warriors remained in front until the death with Scores from skipper Bowley and young pace man Earl Collins.
Short touched down with a neat finish to draw the game to within a score the Warriors seemed destined to win until the match slipped agonisingly away from the Warriors in the dying minute of the match as the Saracens outfit turned the ball over in contact to move the ball to Baldwin who scored in the final action of the game to deny the warriors of a first round victory.
A well supported Warriors stepped out in onto the Twickenham turf for the plate Quarter final after the last gasp defeat in the opening round of the tournament to Saracens.
Quins, last season’s winners kicked off the encounter with Warriors linking well to release Collins for an early break. Following good possession by warriors Quins intercepted on half way and Lyndsay – Hague finished the try under the posts.
Lyndsay – Hague Added a second with a good finish after breaking the line on the Warriors 22 the kick was converted.
Williams added a third for the holders wrapping up the first half that saw the Warriors starlets outdone by an experienced Quins seven.
Lyndsay – Hague secured his hat trick early in the second half as the Warriors showed glimpses of potential and no lack of effort in the tough test that they faced. Quins starved Warriors of possession and the possession eventually told as the Warriors conceded a further score that was converted leaving Warriors trailing 34-0.
As the hooter signalled the end of the match as Lyndsay – Hague finished a fine performance with a fourth score that was converted taking the Quins to a 40-0 victory.
Although the match ended in disappointment the young players who represented the Warriors well tested themselves at the level they strive to achieve with no doubt many of the young players using the opportunity to continue the development of their game and force their way into Ruddocks plans for the future.
