Warriors energise fundraising event

Sports stars from two of Worcester’s premier clubs have swapped their daily workouts for a brisk stroll as they joined forces with their sponsor to help raise essential funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Matt Mullan and Shaun Ruwers from the Warriors donned their walking boots along with Skouson Harker and mascot Wolfie from Worcester Wolves as they united with over 50 employees from npower, which organised the event as part of Macmillan’s Walk with Us fundraising initiative.

Braving the elements, the determined walkers set out from npower’s Worcester office, travelling five kilometres across the canal to Sixways Stadium and back whilst raising over £800 for the charity.

Ruth Billington, community involvement executive at npower, said: “Our team is dedicated to raising money for Macmillan in fun, healthy ways, so Walk with Us fits perfectly, encouraging staff to get out and about for a good cause.

“Since we formed our relationship with Macmillan in 2004, the partnership is valued at over £2.6million and it has been a real privilege to welcome Matt, Shaun and Skouson to push these funds even further.”

Matt Mullan from the Warriors added: “Working with npower to raise much needed funds for Macmillan has been a welcome change to the daily routine and we hope that others will follow in our footsteps.

“It is a simple initiative, but one which anyone can participate in, whilst having fun and familiarising yourself with your local community.”
