Club snapper set for charity challenge

Official club photographer Ian Smith will swap his camera lens for running shoes next month as he takes part in the Worcestershire Beacon Race This Saturday October 10 to raise funds for Cancer Research.

Ian, who has been capturing the Warriors in action for nearly a decade, will run the demanding seven mile course from Rose Bank Gardens in Great Malvern.

In 2008 the winner completed the course in 43 minutes and 21secs and the slowest runner took 1 hour 42 minutes and 24 seconds. “I may well be breaking one of those times – I will leave up to you to guess which,” joked Ian.

“Why am I doing it? It’s a question I’m often asking myself. When I told Nicky Goodwin, who competes in Ironman events, I had entered she just said: “You are barking…”

“I am doing it to raise money for Cancer Research as cancer touches most of our lives in one way or another. A good friend of mine is fighting hard with courage and dignity. She has been in hospital since the beginning of July, yet she has remained cheerful and upbeat. If people sponsor me in some small way, maybe we can all help fight cancer.”
