Rotary Club donates to Tsunami appeal

Worcester Warriors centre Dale Rasmussen was on hand after the Amlin Challenge Cup clash with Montpellier match to accept a cheque on behalf of the Rotary Club of Worcester Severn.

Rotarians Derrick Morgan and Anthony Buttanshaw were at Sixways to hand over the cash to the Samoan international that will be used for two shelter boxes to be sent to Samoa, following the recent Tsunami disaster which devastatingly killed over 100 people in several of the islands.

The Rotary Club of Worcester Severn decided to help Samoa following a national appeal for funds from ShelterBox – www.shelterbox.org – and because of the relationship that Worcester Severn has built up with Dale following a community project at the former Worcester Elgar High School.

During the last five years, the Worcester Rotary clubs have funded the purchase of nearly 200 boxes, each costing £490.

The Shelter Box can provide shelter and survival for up to ten persons for six months. In less than 10 years nearly 55,000 Shelter Boxes have been dispatched to over 80 disasters in 50 different countries and the Rotary inspired ShelterBox Trust is now considered to be the most effective and efficient disaster relief organisation in the world.
