Centre Alex Grove has revealed how he has ‘enjoyed every second’ of his senior Scotland experience after a three-day training camp in St Andrews this week.
Warriors Academy product Grove was one of three uncapped players named by Scotland boss Andy Robinson in a 32-man squad for the autumn internationals with Fiji on August 14, Australia and November 21 and Argentina on November 28.
The 21-year-old will discover on Monday next week if he has been selected for his senior debut when Robinson names his starting line-up to face Fiji at Murrayfield.
But, in the meantime, he is relishing his senior selection and the chance to push his claims for his country.
He said: “I’ve enjoyed every second of being involved with the senior set-up this week.
“It’s my first involvement with the 32-man squad and this time and as we are closing in on the first autumn international with Fiji we have looked at combinations and partnerships.
“I still feel it’s very open in terms of selection and I am just hoping that I can feature at some point over the autumn series, I will just have to wait and see when they name the team.
“I find when I’m training I don’t realise notice the guys I am surrounded by, it’s only when you have got five minutes to yourself when you think things over in your head,” he added.
“That is when I find myself pinching myself and thinking ‘blimey’ a year ago I wasn’t even playing for the Worcester team, let alone training with the senior Scotland boys. That is when it hits home.
“When I do look back the last 12 months have flown by. Sometimes you get lucky with opportunities and I feel I have been lucky with those that have come around for Worcester and now Scotland, with the A tour and now the senior squad.
“What I have done is tried to take those opportunities and now I have just got to perform if I get a chance this autumn.”
Grove is set to miss action with Warriors this weekend due to his international call-up but will still be keeping a close eye on action as Worcester look to start on the front foot in the LV= Cup.
“These next two games are good for gaining momentum and getting back into the Guinness Premiership,” added Grove.
“We slipped off with our performances the last two or three games and let ourselves down a bit. The boys will be hoping to bounce back and show what they can do against Newcastle this week.”
