Star Grove out to sparkle for Scotland

Worcester Warriors ace Alex Grove has vowed to take his chance to shine for Scotland after being named in the starting line-up to face Fiji at Murrayfield on Saturday (kick-off 2.30pm).

Grove has been given his first start for the senior side after boss Andy Robinson named his line-up today (Monday).

The 21-year-old centre has now completed a stunning rise to international recognition and admits he can think about nothing else but running out at the home of Scottish rugby.

“I remember being in the meeting when Andy Robinson announced the side and everything he said after he told me I was playing was a blur,” said Grove.

“I was in shock at the team sheet and it’s just absolutely amazing. I simply cannot wait and I’m so excited about playing at Murrayfield – it is all I can think about at the moment.

“I imagine my dad will hire a few coaches,” joked Grove. “I am still pinching myself and a lot of people I know will travel up to game, I just want it to be a successful day.

“It’s a massive day for me and I’m lost for words, it hasn’t really sunk in and I’m not sure it will do until I am out in the middle of the field and waiting for the whistle.”

Grove revealed he now plans to speak to the senior international stars at Sixways Stadium to prepare himself for his big day for his country.

He said: “I think I will be speaking to a number of the senior players, people like Pat Sanderson and Chris Latham, guys that have been in the international arena numerous occasions.

“They have prepared mentally for these sort of occasions and hopefully they will be able to pass on a few words of wisdom and something to settle any nerves.

“There will be a lot of emotions and hype before the game – I have just got to deal with that and think about my performance and make sure we come away with a win.”
