Talismanic front row ace Aleki Lutui has today committed his future to Worcester Warriors by putting pen to paper on a new two-year deal.
The power packed Tongan international hooker, a former police officer, has been a huge component in the Worcester pack since arriving at the club in September 2006.
Renowned for his explosive running around the pitch and fierce scrumming, Lutui has now agreed a deal that will extend his stay at Sixways until at least 2012, with the exclusive option of a third year.
Lutui, 31, who is fast approaching 100 games for Warriors, was named in the Tonga squad for the 2007 Rugby World Cup in France and has captained his country on several occasions in the past.
“Aleki has extended his contract and will be staying with us for at least two years, with an option for that to be even longer with a third year,” said Director of Rugby, Mike Ruddock.
“We’re delighted because Aleki is a great Warrior, a great player and is hugely respected in our camp and right across the Guinness Premiership.
“He is such a catalyst for our game. When he goes forward it gives everyone a lift and it’s great he is now on board for a few more years.
“I don’t think anyone connected with the Warriors will forget that tackle against Saracens, a few years ago, when he nailed a player in that must win game on the last day and gave everyone a lift. He can have that kind of impact and we look forward to seeing him in action over the coming seasons.”
Lutui added: “I am very pleased to agree a new contract. I am happy here and really enjoy my rugby at Warriors.
“My family is settled in Worcester, which is very important to me, I have good friends at the club and all I want to do now it to help get the team up the Guinness Premiership table and become even better.”
