Mullan pushing for festive comeback

Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock has revealed that prop star Matt Mullan has returned to training at Warriors and could push for a recall on Boxing Day against Northampton Saints.

Mullan has been out of action since the Amlin Challenge Cup clash with Montpellier after undergoing surgery on this shoulder.

But the highly-rated front row – who recently agreed a new contract at Warriors – has now linked up by with his team-mates as he looks to give Worcester a festive boost.

“Matt Mullan is back in training with us and he is in contention for next week with Saints,” said Ruddock.

“It will be great to have him back, we have had a few issues with props and it has been a bit of a disaster zone for us in terms of injuries. Even down to the point when we were going to get someone in to cover, Ricky Davis from the Bees, and he got injured.

“It will be great to see Matt back, he is very professional and the medical staff have done a great job and the specialist has overseen his recuperation and rehabilitation.

“If he does come through training next week and does come through a fitness test, then it is testimony to his determination to return before the deadlines that were set. Well done to our medical staff for their part in that.”

Meanwhile, Ruddock has revealed new signing Chris Cracknell – who is ineligible for European action – is already settling into life at Warriors.

He said: “Chris has joined up with us – it is easy to recognise him because he is the only on with a sun tan after being out in Dubai.

“Chris looks in good shape, is fit and raring to go after his work for England Sevens. We are pleased to have him here. He is a nice lad who has fitted in well already.

“He is a talented player and someone we are not just looking at in the short term, he could be a long term option for us. It is down to him and how he performs, we have had a good chat about that and I’m sure he will be a good professional and option for us.

“He is comfortable at six and eight in the back row and can also play at seven if we ask him.”
