England coach Martin Johnson has admitted he would have no qualms including Worcester Warriors ace Matt Mullan in the Six Nations – hailing the Sixways prop as an ‘exciting’ talent in his Six Nations squad.
Warriors Academy product Mullan jetted to Portugal with the England Senior EPS squad this week as cover for the injured Andrew Sheridan.
The young front row – part of what Johnson has dubbed the best squad of his tenure – is now pushing for possible inclusion in the Six Nations.
And that could mean facing a potential all British Lions front row of Gethin Jenkins, Matthew Rees and Adam Jones when England open the tournament against Wales on February 6.
“We have had our eyes on Matt for quite a while,” said Johnson.
“He is an exciting young player who probably would have been involved in the autumn games but for injury.
“He is very mobile, has a huge work-rate and we think he is capable of being involved in the campaign.”
