All the way from Sixways to Hollywood

Former Worcester star scrum half Sililo Martens has gone all the way from Sixways to Hollywood – after being handed a part in new blockbuster movie Invictus!

Tongan back Martens, who enjoyed a short spell playing for Worcester in the National leagues between 1999 and 2000, has been cast in the film that is unveiled in London this Sunday.

Invictus tells the inspiring story of how Nelson Mandela joins forces with South Africa’s captain Francois Pienaar as his underdog team make an unbelievable run to win the 1995 Rugby World Cup.

Newly elected President Mandela knows his nation remains racially and economically divided in the wake of apartheid. Mandela rallies Pienaar’s squad believing he can bring his people together through sport.

Martens, 32, is joined in the film by former Leeds and Bath No 8 Zak Feaunati, who stars as Jonah Lomu, and Tonga’s Epi Taione also lines up alongside the former Worcester ace in New Zealand colours during the film.

Directed by Clint Eastwood and staring Morgan Freeman as Mandela and Matt Damon as Pienaar, Invictus is officially released in the UK on February 5.
