Maturing Warriors boost league hopes

Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock has praised ‘mature’ aces Miles Benjamin and Tom Wood after they returned from international action with an explosive impact in the Guinness Premiership.

Back row Wood grabbed a first half try against Saracens at Wembley while Benjamin was at his marauding best on the wing and came close to scoring a stunning second half score.

Ruddock was pleased with the return of both players and admits that England experience should give his Warriors a league boost.

“I thought Tom Wood and Miles Benjamin came back with a lot of confidence from England Saxons,” he said.

“They felt as though they had achieved a milestone that gave them confidence and we’re delighted with that.

“They had a presence about them and looked mature and there or thereabouts with the top English players. That is a great boost for us because we benefit for the rest of the season.”

Ruddock has also revealed that Alex Grove and Matt Mullan could also feature this weekend at The Rec after international duty with Scotland and England.

He said: “We’re pleased to have Alex and Matt back. They will be in our panel to go to Bath and whether they go into the team or on the bench we will have to wait and see.

“It’s new territory for us to learn to manage without players on international duty in the Six Nations.

“There is ever chance after this game they will go off again and we have just got to deal with that in similar fashion as we did against Saracens.”
