New signing Adam Balding has spoken of his ‘burning desire to succeed’ at Worcester Warriors after signing a two-year deal that will see him make a summer switch from Newcastle Falcons.
The Coventry-born Number Eight has enjoyed a glittering playing career that has seen him win four Premiership titles and two Heineken Cups with Leicester Tigers.
The 30-year-old, who previously captained Gloucester Rugby, has also gained England honours at Saxons and Sevens level.
But he admits his move to Sixways Stadium will give him new challenge and lease of life in the English top-flight.
“I still have a real burning desire to succeed and know I can achieve that with Warriors,” said Balding.
“I know players like Chris Fortey, Willie Walker and Marcel Garvey with my Gloucester connections and I‘ve played against most of the boys in the Worcester squad. I will come down, work hard and be myself to add something new to the team.
“Rugby has become more of a squad game and you need to have quality players across the board to play in every position,” he added.
“The competition for places will be fierce and that is great as it will mean every week I will be pushing for a place and looking to improve my game.
“I’m used to that type of competition from the very start when I was playing for Leicester Tigers. I learnt my trade from players like Martin Johnson and Neil Back and I have continued to pick things up throughout my career.
“I have experience and I will lead by example and look to help bring on some of the younger players. But my main job is to perform for Warriors every week.”
