Ruddock – Warriors ready for big run in

Mike Ruddock insisted his competitive Worcester Warriors are fired up and ready for the big Guinness Premiership run in with just six games left in the campaign.

Warriors have four games remaining at Sixways Stadium – starting with Leicester Tigers on Saturday, March 27 – and away trips at Sale Sharks and Leeds Carnegie as the league builds to a thrilling finale.

Director of Rugby Ruddock admits the last block of four league games, with three on the road, have been difficult for his team as they secured a losing bonus point at Harlequins on Saturday.

However, he insists the quality in the Warriors squad can shine through and revealed his team are keen to get stuck into the challenge ahead.

“The last four games have been a difficult block for us, with three away out of four,” said Ruddock.

“But we have four home games to come and the two teams closest to us in the league away from home – everything is in our own hands.

“In some ways we would rather carry on with games now and not have this break for a few weeks, the team is keen to get into this big series of games.

“If you take away the last 20 minutes in Bath, when we had Tom Wood and Chris Latham off the field and against 13 men they cut away, we have been very competitive.

“We won our home game with Newcastle and against Saracens we outscored them and played some good rugby. Against Harlequins it was a try a piece and I felt we played some good rugby – there was nothing between the teams and we could have got more than a losing bonus point.

“If we just reduce some of the penalties we give away we are sure we can be as competitive as anyone in the league.”
