Ruddock – We must focus on ourselves

Mike Ruddock has urged his Worcester Warriors to concentrate on each game and not teams around them and the league table as the team prepares to face Leicester Tigers in a massive Guinness Premiership clash at Sixways Stadium on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

Warriors face the league leaders on home soil and Director of Rugby Ruddock knows his team must produce a strong display to gain points.

And the Sixways chief has told his players to focus on events in their control and not elsewhere as the season hits boiling point.

“It’s about us and we can’t control what goes on with other teams. All we can control is our preparation and putting in performances. That is what we are determined to do,” he said.

“We were unlucky to lose to Harlequins and beat Newcastle, we are in good shape and we want to look up the table.

“We are determined to put a good show on and get stuck into Leicester. It is going to be difficult because they don’t lose many and are determined to push on and win the title.

“It will be a great game and, if I am honest, as well as we played against Newcastle we need to find another 10 to 20 percent to overturn the Tigers.

“We know it’s going to be a tough ask, we know it is going to be a challenge, we know if we don’t deliver a huge performance we won’t get close. But we have enough quality to be in this game.

“It’s been good for us to have two weeks off,” he added. “We had a tough block before this break, one at home when we played well against Newcastle and the rest away.

“But we have trained every week to make sure we kept focus and the continuity with skills and fitness because this game is hugely important, the magnitude is incredible and we need to deliver.”
