Boss Mike Ruddock has revealed points machine Willie Walker is closing in on his comeback as Warriors prepare to welcome Leicester Tigers to Sixways Stadium in a huge league encounter on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3pm).
Fly half Walker missed the recent away game with Harlequins in London after breaking a bone in his hand.
However, the leading scorer in the Guinness Premiership is now back to full fitness and pushing for a recall when the league leaders visit Sixways.
“Willie will have a last minute fitness test just to make sure he is okay,” said Ruddock. “He is training with us and going through all the skills, he has pretty much been doing that from day one and had some strapping on the hand.
“We don’t see it as a problem and we are very hopeful he will start for us, we have planned for that in all team practices. It will be a month since he did the injury and he is well healed.
“It has been helpful for Matthew Jones to also have a run and he did well and didn’t let us down at all against Harlequins.
“We scored a fantastic try and one of the reasons was that Matthew put a fantastic pattern of play together moving the ball right and then back left to find his players with a 20 metre pass that opened them up.
“Matthew showed his skills and kicked his goals, it is important he had that game because if we need him now on the run in he has got game time at the highest level under his belt.”
