Ruddock – Warrior spirit remains strong

Mike Ruddock has revealed the mood inside the Sixways camp remains strong and united as the Warriors prepare for the big league visit of London Irish on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

Worcester have started preparations for the final four games of the campaign knowing home form will be critical as London Irish, London Wasps and Gloucester Rugby all visit Sixways.

Director of Rugby Ruddock admits his team have no time to dwell on defeat in Stockport last Friday and are now fully focussed on the visit of the Exiles.

And he has appealed on fans to once again pack out Sixways to make home advantage count in the closing weeks of the season.

“Even though we lost at Sale you weren’t looking at a Worcester Warriors side that was lacking spirit, that was not united or up for the fight,” he said.

“We have been in these situations before, it is not something we are particularly proud of but we are used to picking ourselves up, dusting ourselves down and getting on with it.

“The boys are disappointed, but we don’t dwell on it and the fact we lost. We look at London Irish and how we can beat them.

“The squad is composed and mindful that we have three home games to come and an away game to our nearest rivals. It will be tough but ultimately this league is about winning your home games.

“We have to take advantage of our great crowd and great stadium, get the fans behind us and roaring us on. Once we do that I am sure we will perform,” he added.

“It does make such a difference to have the crowd behind us. They have been our 16th man and given us that extra man.

“Against Leicester, for an hour, I thought we looked a top of the table team and they struggled against us.

“If you look at what they did to Bath at the weekend, it just shows that they can do that to any team and for an hour we looked right on top of them. We feel we are still a good team and we have to look to make that count.”
