Friends reunited for wing ace Marcel

Wing star Marcel Garvey is determined to make an explosive return to the starting line-up at Worcester Warriors – as he prepares to battle with some familiar faces on Saturday at Sixways (kick-off 3pm).

Garvey will make his first start league start since November and Director of Rugby Mike Ruddock has revealed he expects the wing to put his frustrations behind him in some style.

The 26-year-old has revealed he will have plenty of reason to perform with some of his closest friends in the game set to line-up against him.

“I will be great to start,” he said. “I have got an opportunity to impress and I want to take this chance.

“You always want to be playing every week and I have just had to get my head down in training and wait for my chance. Hopefully I will bring something new to the team and we will taste some success.

“London Irish are a very talented side and many of my mates from rugby are in their squad. It’s always great to play against Delon Armitage and it would be great to get one over him.

“I played age group rugby with Delon and we have stayed in touch, we remain good mates and so lining up against him is always fun.

“This game is massively important for us. We want to get some wins in these next two games on home soil.”

Warriors have already faced the Exiles twice this season, with a draw in the corresponding league clash in Reading while Worcester enjoyed success in the LV= Cup encounter on home soil.

Garvey is well aware of the ammunition in the Irish squad and how keen they will be to perform in the race for the play-offs.

However, with a big crowd expected at Sixways, the home speedster is keen to perform for the fans who have backed him throughout this campaign.

“We have performed well against London Irish this season, we have played them already at Sixways this season, we know how they play and what will be needed,” he added.

“They have players like Ryan Lamb and Chris Malone at No.10 who can control games and two of the best centres in the league in Seilala Mapusua and Elvis Seveali’i, who I rate as one of the best players in the Guinness Premiership.

“It’s great to have the home support behind us. It has been a disappointing season for them and us so we hope we can get a result that our support deserves. We want to perform for them and give them plenty to cheer.”
