Boss Mike Ruddock admitted a purple patch from London Irish just before half-time had taken the game from his Worcester Warriors as they suffered a 23-13 defeat at Sixways Stadium.
Worcester made a strong start to the Guinness Premiership encounter as Scotland international Alex Grove raced over for a 13th minute try.
But tries from Delon and Steffon Armitage in the space of five minutes towards the end of the second half saw the game crucially swing back towards the Exiles.
“We made a good start with the try but we were still under pressure early on and it was more of a breakaway try, in fairness to London Irish they had the best of the game and made us work so hard for any field position,” said Ruddock.
“We were 10-3 up had a great break down the touchline when we showed some good invention and almost got outside them. We tried to keep the ball alive, with hindsight that probably wasn’t a great decision, and they hacked in behind us.
“Marcel (Garvey) was trapped on the floor and the penalty was given. The kick went in, with a bit of magic from London Irish, and that took the game away from us in that purple spell five minutes before half-time.
“I was proud of the players, I thought we battled hard and tackled hard,” he added.
“The tries that Irish scored were very difficult to stop with a quickly taken cross kick, because we had sold ourselves to attack we weren’t as organised as we could have been.
“The second try saw them camped on our line with pick and goes, it is difficult to stop a guy making an inch there at a crucial time.
“Even though we didn’t have territorial advantage that we wanted, we kept plugging away and trying to get back into the game.
“But some of our errors really went against us. We missed three crucial kicks at goal and a touch finder in the second half that could have given us a chance to get out of the stranglehold that they had on us second half.
“The energy and effort is there, it is just that little bit of precision that we have missed all season really.
“It’s more individual error than team error and so that gives me hope that we can get out of the problems we are in.”
