Andrew Stanley has called for the Sixways squad to produce a performance to be proud of on the final day of the league season – as he prepares to lead Warriors against his former club.
Academy Manager Stanley has taken control of first team matters on an interim basis following the departure of Mike Ruddock.
Stanley will now prepare Warriors for the final game of the campaign against Gloucester Rugby on Saturday, May 8.
And it is a club he needs little introduction to having played almost 200 first team games for the Cherry and Whites before he retired from senior rugby in 1998.
Stanley said: “We have got to concentrate on what we can control in the present – the present is getting ourselves prepared for what will be a tough game against Gloucester.
“Facing your former club is now more common in rugby because people spend more time at other clubs. You come up against situations when you are against teams you have known for a number of years.
“I had some very happy memories at Gloucester but my mind for the last five and a half years has been purely on Worcester and developing the Academy at Warriors.
“That mindset will continue in the build up and preparation for the first team against Gloucester next Saturday. Nothing will detract from that.
“We had a major disappointment last weekend,” he added “But the opportunity this week is to get out in front of our home crowd at Sixways and put a performance in that we can be proud of as a group and the fans can be proud of.
“We just need to concentrate on putting a display together to take us a step forward in the right direction.
“We have got good professionals within our squad and I’m sure they are able to concentrate on the job in hand which is to produce an all-round strong performance against a good Gloucester side.”
