Warriors project sponsor scoops award

A dedicated project worker has been named as Inspirational Mentor of the Year in the 2010 national Housing Hero awards after his work on the ‘Walk Like A Warrior’ scheme.

Worcester Community Housing's (WCH) ICT Support Administrator Richard Husband beat off competition from five other finalists, shortlisted from over 300 entries, to bring home the accolade for his work on the youth engagement and citizenship project with Worcester Warriors,

The project, delivered by the Warriors Community Team, saw Richard take WCH customers aged between 12 and 14 under his wing. He mentored them through the 10-week project that teaches life skills in a professional sporting environment.

Simon Lane, Walk Like a Warrior Project Coordinator, said: “The youngsters responded fantastically to Richards mentoring. He had a real connection with them and supported and guided them through what was, for some, quite an emotionally and physically challenging experience.”

The awards were organised by Inside Housing magazine and the Chartered Institute of Housing (CIH). In their second year, the awards recognise the commitment, passion and flair of people working in the social housing sector up and down the country.

TV presenter, Antarctic explorer and Atlantic rower Ben Fogle presented the accolades at a ceremony in London attended by more than 700 people from the industry.
