Rugby matador joy at Sixways move

New signing Oriol Ripol has spoken of his desire to bring his brand of attacking rugby to Worcester Warriors after the Spanish flier completed a one-year deal to move to Sixways Stadium.

Ripol, who has made 17 appearances for Spain, moves from Sale Sharks after previous spells in England at Rotherham Titans and Northampton Saints.

The Spanish star is now eager to start his new challenge in the Championship with Warriors and provide the firepower to take the club back into the English elite.

And he revealed how his younger brother has already given new Head Coach Richard Hill a glowing report before the wing checks in at Sixways.

“I am absolutely delighted to sign for Worcester,” said Ripol, who enjoyed a five-year spell at Sale.

“I had been at Sale Sharks for a number of years so this is for me a refreshing challenge and exactly what I need. I can’t wait to get started for my new club.

“I know of the great things that Richard Hill has achieved and my younger brother has worked with him in France, he said very good things about him and the future now for Worcester.

“I want to bring attacking and winning rugby to Worcester – that is what my game is all about. I want to play to my strengths and hopefully that will mean Warriors get promotion.

“I realise how difficult the Championship is going to be. We must take it step by step and I am really excited about the year ahead. I hope to fit in with the team and the boys very quickly top make my impact.

Ripol, who has previously played with Marcel Garvey in Sevens competitions, is also keen to sample the special Sixways atmosphere from next season.

“I have played at the stadium on many times and that is a big pull,” he added. “I wanted to be a part of that so hopefully the supporters will welcome me very well.

“The facilities and set-up are some of the best in the country and now I will start a new chapter for me and a new massive challenge.

“I was a long time at Sale so I am looking forward to this challenge, this is a new start for me and I will take it.”
