Mullan pledges his future to Warriors

England star Matt Mullan has reiterated his total commitment to Worcester Warriors – pledging his future and vowing to do everything possible to fire the club back into the English elite.

Prop ace Mullan, who made his senior England international debut against Italy in the Six Nations earlier this season, is one of England’s most promising and talented front-row forwards.

The highly-rated 23-year-old, a product of the Warriors Academy, is determined to bring success to the club and underlined that desire when he signed a new two-year deal in 2009 to remain until at least 2012.

The front row had been at the centre of speculation over his playing future following the club’s relegation from the Guinness Premiership at the end of the 2009/10 campaign.

However, the home-grown forward has now silenced any rumours by speaking of his hopes of powering Warriors back into the Premiership and how his ambition for the future is very much mirrored by the club under new Head Coach Richard Hill.

“I’m already looking forward to next season with Warriors and our bid to make an immediate return to the Premiership and really push the club forward,” said Mullan, who has made 65 appearances for Worcester.

“There was interest from other clubs regarding my playing future, however I’ve come through the ranks at Warriors and remain totally committed to continuing that journey and bringing success to Sixways.

“I’m excited about being part of the squad that not only brings us back up but sets new standards, having spoken to Richard Hill about his ideas and plans. He is a vastly experienced and highly qualified coach who I believe will instill a fresh approach and a winning culture and ambition.

“With the backing of our Chairman Cecil Duckworth, I’m confident that Sixways will be a very positive and rewarding place to play my rugby next season.

“If we then come back up to the Premiership, I am sure we can change our focus to ensure we are competitive in the top half of the table and achieve the success that everyone at the club craves.”

Richard Hill added: “Players like Matt Mullan are the future at Worcester Warriors, they have been through the Academy system and become an integral part of the club.

“We want young talented players at the core of our squad as and when the Warriors return to the Premiership and so Matt reaffirming his total commitment to the club is fantastic news.”
