Hill vows to put down season marker

Head Coach Richard Hill is determined that his new-look Worcester Warriors will put down a season marker on the opening day of the campaign after the fixtures for the club’s Championship bid were officially announced.

Worcester will open the new Championship league season with a home derby day game against Birmingham & Solihull on the Bank Holiday weekend of August 28.

Hill is keen for his team to hit the floor running on the opening afternoon at Sixways Stadium – and the hard work begins when pre-season kicks off next week.

“It is always good to start at home and we will be concentrating on that date very carefully,” said Hill.

“We have a local derby to look forward to between Worcester and Birmingham & Solihull and that will be an exciting challenge.

“We need to put our marker down on that day and so that game will be a big focus for us. I have got a lot of work to cover because we may well change the style of play.

“I will leave the players in the hands of the strength and conditioning coaches for the first week or two while I work out a game plan that will suit the players we have. I need to get to know them all first and see what suits us best.

“There is lots of hard work ahead for the Warriors because we have got to be spot on for the weekend of August 28 when it all starts.”
