Droitwich take Touch Rugby honours

Droitwich High School showed immense skill and determination to go seven games unbeaten and take this year’s ‘Sixways Year 9/10 Touch Rugby Title’.

The tournament, which was played in sweltering conditions, saw teams from schools throughout Worcestershire and Birmingham take to the field to play the increasingly popular fast flowing six-a-side form of rugby.

Droitwich, lead by their team coach Andy Hook, topped the group and clawed their way through a tough semi-final against Bishop Perowne, Worcester, before facing a talented Blessed Edward side in the tournament final.

In a nail biting game, which produced some outstanding rugby, normal time could not decide a winner. The game went to extra time, which sees teams drop players as time progresses. At four players aside, some quick thinking from Droitwich saw them score from a quick tap penalty and triumph as tournament winners.

As part of the prize for making the final, Warriors look forward to welcoming both schools to Sixways Stadium to play a half-time game at one of the Championship games in the new season.
