We must set the standards – Goode

Summer signing Andy Goode has called on the Sixways squad to produce ‘Premiership standards’ in the league this season – and revealed how he is enjoying a new lease of life at Warriors.

England ace Goode has effortlessly settled into life at Sixways and is eager for the club to really hit the floor running when league action commences on Saturday, August 28 against local rivals Birmingham & Solihull.

And the fly half star insists the team must hit the heights as they look to bring long term success to Sixways.

“We know we have got to be training and playing at Premiership standards this season. We want to win this league and then be ready to compete at the next level,” said Goode, one of most prolific scorers in English club rugby history.

“We have got to aim high to make sure what did happen, never happens again. It is no good just getting through this league, we need to set really high standards.

“The Championship is a long campaign and Richard Hill has got great plans for the year, using the squad to its limits and really planning well for the year.

“We have got to keep fit and fresh, we need to hit our peak at the end of the year. Some clubs in recent years have peaked a little too soon. We want to be top of the league the whole year, don’t get me wrong, but we don’t want to go into the play offs scratching for victories having played our best. We have got to be flying.

“Richard Hill is a very experienced campaigner and he knows exactly what is needed in this league, I have been hugely impressed by him.”

Points machine Goode has moved back to England after successful spells in France with Brive and the other side of the globe with the Sharks.

And the 30-year-old – capped nine times by his country – revealed how much both he and his family are enjoying a fresh start back in the Midlands.

“I have settled down in the area, bought a house and the family are very, very happy,” said the former Leicester Tigers ace.

“It’s nice to get back to a little bit of familiarity after so many years in France and the last few months in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

“I’ve had a great few years but now I am looking forward to knuckling down to life at Warriors and getting Worcester back to where they belong.

“I know the area well and it’s great to see family so close, my little girl has settled at school and I am now really revved up to play rugby.

“We have got a few more hard weeks to come before we get out on the field. But I’m really enjoying it and we have got to keep that positive attitude going into the season.”
