Head Coach Richard Hill has stressed the importance of the backing of the Sixways faithful this season – as Worcester Warriors prepare to fling open the doors for the annual FREE Warriors Open Day tomorrow (Saturday).
Fans are invited to Sixways for a day of entertainment on Saturday as the turnstiles open at 10am for stadium tours, meet the players and a range of events such as police dog shows, laser shooting, climbing walls, tag rugby sessions and exhibitions.
Boss Hill will then take charge of his first official Worcester Warriors game as his new-look side tackle Stourbridge Saxons from 3pm.
And the Sixways chief has revealed how he wants to build a closer relationship between the players and fans this season to create a fantastic family environment and positive atmosphere on home soil.
“The supporters are a huge part of our club and we are fortunate to have such fantastic fans here at Warriors,” said Hill.
“It’s important for me that as many supporters as possible have contact with the players and get to know them.
“When they go out onto the field I want the players to know they are not just playing for themselves but for every fan in the stadium, we must respect our fans.
“Likewise I want the supporters to understand the hard work we do and we plan to put that across with behind the scenes footage of players getting really put through it. They have put a lot of hard work in.
“It is a big year and a good opportunity for both sides to come closer together. As a squad, we are looking to win matches and provide a winning style that fans will enjoy coming to watch. That is our commitment to them.
“Away from home it would be great to see as many Worcester supporters to help lift us, to create our own atmosphere on our travels.”
Warriors have named six new signings in the squad for the opening pre-season game with Stourbridge and Hill is keen for his team to play with freedom.
“We have good rugby players at this club and we have got to make sure they can express themselves,” her added.
“The new players have come in and we have an exceptional tight 33-man squad that has grown closer together during pre-season. The spirit is excellent.
“It has pleased me the way they have accepted the new ideas and methods. They have been very responsive to change, which is not always easy for senior players.
“The new players have also fitted in remarkably well. They have come in and enjoyed themselves and the environment as well as training hard – which is a really good sign. You want the players to enjoy coming to work.”
