Hill – Time now to play with confidence

Head Coach Richard Hill has urged his Worcester Warriors to shake off the shackles of the opening weeks of the season and play with freedom as they entertain Rotherham Titans in the RFU Championship at Sixways on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

Warriors are unbeaten in the league after a bonus point success over Bees on the opening day and a testing away day victory over Plymouth Albion.

Hill believes his talented squad should now be able to get their teeth stuck into the meat of the season and relax on home soil against the Titans.

However, he acknowledges his team face a difficult challenge against a ‘gritty’ Rotherham team that have secured late wins over Bristol Rugby and Bedford Blues.

“Against Bees there was huge pressure for us to get off to a good start and then at Plymouth the players got a taste for what it is like to go away in the Championship,” he said.

“That is now gone and now I hope we can relax a little bit. We have dealt with the expectations and now I want to see us settle down and be more confident in ourselves. We have kept consistency with our selection and I want to see that bring the best out in the team.

“Rotherham look to be gritty side, they won’t give up and they will keep battling right to the end,” he added.

“It will be a good test for us and you can’t relax in this league. Already we have seen a few surprise results and it is difficult to gauge the form of all teams.

“We want to put a marker down. We fully respect the teams we face in this league, but with the quality of players we have got we need to do that.

“The squad has had a lot of information to take in, there is a new attack policy and new defence policy. It has been a time of change, but we want some order and when all the pieces come together we will be a successful team.”
