Big tackling centre Rob Higgitt has revealed his enjoyment at being back out in the thick of the action this season – but insists there is still more to come from him and the Warriors as the new Championship season continues to gather pace this Saturday at Sixways (kick-off 3pm).
Welsh-born ace Higgitt joined forces with Head Coach Richard Hill during the summer after the duo previously successfully worked together at Bristol Rugby.
The 29-year-old – branded ‘one of the most dedicated players I’ve ever worked with’ by Hill – has made an immediate impression at Sixways.
The strong running centre grabbed a fine try on his home league debut against Bees and put in another solid show at Plymouth to help Worcester make it two out of two.
And Higgitt admits he is relishing Sixways life and is delighted to be back out playing after an injury-hit spell at Scarlets before moving to Warriors.
“I have pleased by my start,” he said. “Having arrived in the summer I just want to contribute to the squad, both on and off the pitch, and I have been lucky enough to pull on the shirt for the first few league games.
“We have a talented squad here and number of good centres, there will be spells for all of us and the game time will be shared around.
“It is a case of making sure that when you get an opportunity you impress for the team. It has been great to be involved and now I’m looking forward to playing a part at the weekend against Rotherham.
“I had suffered a bit last season with injuries and had time out – it’s good to be back out on the pitch with this new start.
“I had a solid pre-season and it has gone really well for me, I have fitted in quickly and everyone has been friendly.”
Higgitt is set to line up once again this weekend against Rotherham and the centre expects a stern examination from a Titans team that is also unbeaten after the opening two weeks.
However, he insists Worcester must look to just focus on improving their own game in a bid to send another big home support away happy.
“It’s early on in the season, but it is certainly good to have played the first two games and got two results,” he said.
“It’s a long season so we know the journey is just beginning. There is more to come, but it is a promising start for us.
“Rotherham are also unbeaten so will provide a real challenge. They have won both their games late on but judging by the videos they have played well in both matches. They will come here full of confidence.
“We realise it is going to be a tough game and we need to concentrate on our own performance and raising standards again.
“What does make such a difference is the level of backing we have enjoyed on the opening weekends,” he added.
“We had a superb support on day one at Sixways and to go to Plymouth and see that many Worcester shirts around the ground, with the number that made that long journey, speaks volumes about the kind of people and the club we are involved with.
“It really makes a difference when you see that level of support and hopefully we can now put on a performance this weekend that is worthy for the backing we are getting.”
