New-look Study Centre nears completion

The new Study Centre premises, located in the Sixways Stadium South Stand, are nearing completion following refurbishment of a number of executive boxes which have been combined to provide an office, teaching suite and chill out room.

The finishing touches are now being made ready for the 2010-11 PfS season kick-off on Monday 20th September.

Framed Warriors shirts from past seasons have been mounted, blinds will be fitted, the library has yet to be installed and additional branding will be added. The stadium and playing surface are looking in tip top condition – a perfect setting for the Study Centre.

From KS2 we welcome The Grove, Pitmaston , Northwick Manor, Cranham, Great Witley CE, St.Clements CE, Stanley Road Primary and Harvington CE First School.

From KS3 we welcome Simon de Montfort Middle School, St.Bedes Catholic Middle School, Parkside Middle School and Abbey Park Middle School.

The PFS curriculum will further develop London 2012 Olympic based tasks at KS3 and KS3 linked with Numeracy, Literacy and ICT. There will also be a pilot for a KS3 Olympic based PFS programme which will include movie making, poster design, poetry, athletic stadium design and an Olympic bid team challenge.

The PFS Centre will also be piloting a Science based ‘STEM Challenge’ working with Year 8 pupils’ from St.Bedes Catholic Middle school. Pupils will be set a brief to design and locate a new national handball cantre in Worcester.

Pupils will need to think carefully about designing the facility, locating it in a suitable sight and investigating environmental impact.

A ‘Reports for Sports’ program will also be piloted after half term with Westacre Middle School which will involve Podcasting, player interviews, producing a news broadcast and reporting on Warriors match action.

We would like to congratulate our Olympic poetry champion as voted by members of the audience at graduation from the summer term to represent the Study Centre in the West Midlands regional competition was written by Liam Fisher, a Year 5 student from Nunnery Wood Primary School.

Inspiration

Winners succeed loser leave,
If you retire you will not desire,
Don’t ever give up the time will come,
Life is hard keep going,
You will never be the same if you don’t achieve your goal.
Do your best and persevere.
Repest your opponents and be loyal.

Commit, don’t let your team down,
Always try your best.
To lose it not to fail,
But not to try is a failure.
Commit to your team mates, it’s not just about winning,
It’s about honesty, respect, enjoyment,
Loyalty, achieving and having fun.
