Hill calls on fan power to back team

Richard Hill has urged local rugby fans to keep coming through the turnstiles at Sixways to ‘see some great rugby’ – promising the best is yet to come from his new-look Worcester Warriors.

Warriors have already clocked up 17 tries in four leagues and boast the league top try scorer in Miles Benjamin to sit at the top of the RFU Championship table.

Head Coach Hill is determined to keep adopting an attacking brand of rugby as the club looks for an immediate return to the top-flight and called on fans to continue getting behind the side.

“We are starting to click and I would like rugby fans to see what we are trying to do,” said Hill. “They will see some great rugby. This is the sort of rugby we would like to play in the Premiership.”

“The Championship has been as hard as I expected it to be. We have some stern tests coming up in the next month that will really test us.

“The first few games have been helpful to put things into practice and now I want us to kick on.

“The result against Esher sent out a message, a number of people I know in the game phoned me and told me just how good a result it was. To score six tries and not concede sends out a sign. But we will get better.”

The relentless work on the training field has continued this week with Hill eager for his squad to work on counter attacking tactics to bring yet another dimension to his side.

“We have a huge amount of work to still do,” he added. “We have started counter attack routines and there is a whole host of things we need to be doing that we haven’t even touched yet. That is exciting, we haven’t even touched some work.

“The players are still getting fresh ideas and we are looking at counter attack. Although we have done quite well and Tom Arscott scored a fantastic solo try against Esher that was just him running through the whole Esher team on instinct.

“There are ways to do it; you see French counter attacking and it can look quite random. But there is away to set teams up to find the space.

“It is an interesting scheme of work and it involves the whole team because they all have roles and responsibilities. We have a lot more to come yet.”
