Big prop Oliver Tomaszczyk was delighted to grab his first senior try for the Warriors as his late score helped secure a bonus point against Plymouth Albion – and later revealed how he is relishing life at Worcester.
Tomaszczyk – nicknamed Tomahawk by his growing army of fans at Warriors – climbed off the bench to add extra physicality to the Warriors pack in the final half hour on Saturday.
Head Coach Richard Hill admitted he was pleased that the London-born tight-head scored the crucial fourth try and deserved it for his big efforts when he came on.
However, Tomaszczyk has vowed to keep his feet on the ground and keep on learning during his first season at Sixways.
“Richard said to me was to go out there, give it everything and try and contribute something,” he said. “My motivation was to try and contribute something positive and help the team anyway I could through my own endeavour.
“It was nice to get over for my first try for the club and bring up the bonus point — it was just a case of me going over from two yards out, so it wasn’t a big deal.
“When the replacements came on, it was just a case of mopping Plymouth up because they were already pretty tired. When I got on, the prop wasn’t a replacement and was already tired — Bruce Douglas had worked him hard in the first-half and their whole pack started to crumble.
“Big Dave (Tevita Taumoepeau) is a bit unmovable, but I don’t think about how much I am playing too much — you just try to do your best and take the opportunities when they come,” he added.
“This is my first year as a professional and I’ve spoken to other pros and they say not to get too caught up in how much you play.”
