Academy chief Andrew Stanley pinpointed regular game time as the secret behind Joe Carlisle’s success as the young fly half orchestrated a thumping win for Warriors in the 58-10 victory over Newport Rugby.
Carlisle scored a superb first half try and produced a deadly accurate display with the boot to finish with 28 points in the game and mastermind a big win for Warriors on day one of the competition.
Head of Skill Development and Academy boss Stanley was not surprised to see his No.10 take the plaudits and believes the rotation system at Sixways this season has helped Carlisle start to hit top form.
“Joe Carlisle is definitely benefiting from getting regular exposure now and he has probably played more games already this season than he did in the last two,” said Stanley.
“We've always been a fan of his throughout his time in the Academy and it is good to see him coming through to the first team and showing everyone what he can do with performances like that against Newport.”
Meanwhile, Carlisle was keen to downplay his performance in front of the S4C cameras that saw the commentators tipping him for Welsh honours, as he qualifies through his mother’s side of the family.
“We looked to play on the front foot throughout the game and that is what happened,” he said.
“The pack was dominant and that allowed the backs to play and express themselves. I just did my job and it is always nice to get some points.
“There were a lot of young boys out on the pitch today, with people like Matt Kvesic and Andy Short back with us after the England Under-20 training camp, and they all did really well.
“Newport are a good powerful side, but we were dominant today in all aspects and it is a good start for us in the competition that we will look to build on.”
