Hill thanks supporters for festive win

Head Coach Richard Hill paid tribute to the club’s dedicated supporters as Worcester Warriors beat the weather and Moseley Rugby to secure the perfect end to 2010.

Heavy snow and frost had put the game in doubt until just 48 hours before kick-off before a stunning clean–up operation at Sixways saw the complex transformed.

Volunteers worked side-by-side with staff at the Warriors throughout Monday to ensure the stadium was clear of snow and able to go ahead.

The players then repaid that hard work with an impressive display as the league leaders secured a Christmas derby day success with a 45-7 victory on home soil in a game that Hill admitted afterwards was crucial to stage.

“I was very pleased to get the game on. I would like to thank all those people that helped,” said Hill.

“Two days ago it was looking very unlikely with a lot of snow on the pitch. But to the credit of the ground staff, staff at the club and a lot of supporters we got the game on.

“The pitch held up really well. I thought we might not get a great game because of the wet pitch, but in the end we had two teams really out to entertain the supporters.

“It was important we played and the players were desperate to play. There has been a great attitude since we played away at Doncaster and won away, we wanted to play and I would have been very worried going to Bristol on Sunday without a game since Doncaster.

“It was crucial that we got the game on at all costs and again I would like to thank everybody for the huge effort,” he added.

“Charlie Little, our General Manager, and our Chairman, Cecil Duckworth, were both very keen that the game went ahead and supported the playing side, which is great.

“Having a bit of contact now under our belts and getting the rustiness out of us will do us good. We have not been able to train outside at all for the last few weeks. No catching restarts, no kicking or receiving kicks. We have also not had any goal kick training, so to get 100 percent was an outstanding effort.

“Crucially, we have got the five points we wanted and maintained our lead at the top. We now are more battle hardened going into the game with Bristol away.”
