Head Coach Richard Hill praised ‘a professional display’ from his Worcester Warriors as they secured a comfortable six-try victory over Nottingham Rugby on Sunday.
Free-scoring Nottingham had provided a stern examination of Hill’s men when the two teams met at Sixways earlier in the season.
However, the televised clash at Meadow Lane was always dominated by Warriors who wrapped up a bonus point win just minutes into the second period with Andy Goode (2), Kai Horstmann, Pat Sanderson, Jonny Arr and Ollie Frost all eventually crossing the whitewash.
“I thought it was a very professional display by us,” said Hill. “It would have been very easy to come and produce a sloppy performance because we have won the league already. Our thoughts are turning towards the 12th of March and those play-off games.
“But I was delighted that the players really got up for the game. They prepared well and produced a really good performance, particularly in the first half when we didn’t let Nottingham into the game and were very clinical.
“Our forwards were precise, our handling was good and our three quarters were making yardage over the game line. We produced really quick recycled ball with good pace and intensity.
“To get the bonus point try just two minutes into the second half was absolutely what we told the team to do. Come out and finish the game and at 31-9 it gave us the chance to put the replacements on and give them game time.
“We eased up a little bit and Nottingham, with a bit of loose possession and tempo, came back and scored three tries.
“That is slightly disappointing, but not a bad thing for a coach. You always want something to moan about and we know we are not perfect yet.
“It looks 99 percent certain that we will face Nottingham in the play-offs so we know we have got to come back here. We wanted to put a marker down so we know we can come here and win.”
