Coach – Players primed for play-offs

Forwards Coach Phil Davies believes Worcester Warriors can go into the RFU Championship play-offs in high spirits and with real momentum as they prepare to face Bristol Rugby this Sunday (kick-off 1pm).

Worcester launch their Pool A bid with a trip to the Memorial Stadium on the back of a big British & Irish Cup victory over Moseley and a solid league campaign during the regular season that saw them finish 19 points clear of nearest rivals Bedford Blues.

Warriors made the trip to Portsmouth last week for a three-day camp aboard HMS Ark Royal and Davies insists that experience has only brought the squad closer together as they prepare for crunch time in the league.

“In many ways, it’s been our longest pre-season and we are now at the stage where we need to be,” said Davies. “We have six games to try and finish top of this league and then go onto hopefully a semi-final and final.

“We are in good form and have no injuries, other than Jake Abbott who is looking good in terms of rehabilitation.

“We are in a good place and the players have worked hard and the club is going forward with great momentum. We are looking forward to these next big games and hopefully beyond.

“There is a job to be done and next year is next year, now is now,” declared Davies. “To be fair to everybody, there is a great spirit in the camp and the time we had away at the HMS Ark Royal, with the whole squad pulled together, the boys worked hard.

“There is some great team spirit that has grown out of those days, not that we needed much of that because it has been in huge evidence right from the start. We are just ready to play now and everyone wants to play their part.”
