Rasmussen and Crockett to face Bris

Richard Hill admits his midfield selection for the RFU Championship play-off opener with Bristol Rugby has been a ‘very close call’ – but has revealed he will pair hard-hitting duo Dale Rasmussen and Alex Crockett for Sunday’s big clash.

Worcester kick-off Pool A with a difficult away trip to the Memorial Stadium to face a Bristol team that have hit real form in the last few weeks (kick-off 1pm).

Head Coach Hill is keeping his team selection under wraps until Friday, but admitted the make-up of his centre partnership had been a debated long and .

“It was a very close call, we had a long debate about it, but I am going to go for Alex Crockett and Dale Rasmussen in the centre,” said Hill.

“Alex has been deliberately played in the last five games to really give him the chance to get his rhythm. He has got better and better with each game.

“But I am going to go with a little bit of extra physicality at this stage and keep Alex on the bench. I hope he can be introduced in the second half and can create some havoc with his pace and attacking flair.”

Meanwhile, the Sixways chief also named Chris Pennell as his full back for the fixture after hailing the return to form of his captain in recent weeks.

“Chris will captain the side. I feel very confident having him at the back and in a short space of time he has shown he is a superb player,” said Hill.

“He talks so well and organises things. He doesn’t miss a tackle, has a lovely kick on him and he has that acceleration into the line.

“He is a genuine full back and he is clearly outstanding, in my view, and a great leader. He is No.1 on the team sheet.”
