Kind-hearted Sixways supporters have helped raise valuable funds for Acorns Children’s Hospice after bidding in an online auction for signed jerseys worn by the Warriors and purchasing replica charity shirts.
The Warriors pulled on a special all smiles charity jersey – designed by young Worcester fan Cammi Fletcher – for the festive fixture with Moseley Rugby to raise money for Acorns.
Following the fixture, staff at the Sixways Store took orders for replica shirts for one month only with all money going to Acorns, after the cost of making the shirt.
The club also launched the chance to bid for a piece of Worcester rugby memorabilia with every shirt worn on the day by Warriors signed by that player and auctioned off to raise crucial funds for the hospice.
A total of over £3,000 has already been raised with money still coming in and Beth Reader, Retail & Ticketing Services Manager at Warriors, said the club had been delighted with the response from supporters.
“The charity shirt certainly captured the imagination of our fans with hundreds of children entering our competition to design the jersey,” she said.
“The reaction to the players wearing such a visible show of support for Acorns was also fantastic and we have taken lots of orders for replicas and seen the signed shirts snapped up with our online auction. All the signed shirts proved popular, in particular those worn by Neil Best and Miles Benjamin.
“We continue to support the wonderful work of Acorns Children’s Hospice at Warriors with our dedicated range of Acorns training kit generating a £1 donation for each item sold so there is still time for our fans to make a difference.”
The numbers of children Acorns Children’s Hospice helps has risen extraordinarily in the last 12 months from 500 to 585, despite the draining effect of the recession.
