Worcester Warriors are today delighted to announce that England Under-20 international back row Matt Kvesic has pledged his future to the club by signing a new contract.
Kvesic, a product of the Academy system at Warriors, has made an explosive impact at Sixways this season and been rewarded for his outstanding progress with a new deal by Head Coach Richard Hill.
The powerful 18-year-old was contracted for next season but has now agreed new terms beyond that period.
The all-action flanker became the youngest Warrior in the professional era against Scarlets in the LV=Cup in November 2009 and 12 months later celebrated his full RFU Championship debut by grabbing two tries against Esher at Sixways.
The back row dynamo has also excelled on the international stage and captained England Under-18s before this season playing a key role as England Under-20s secured the Six Nations crown and Grand Slam.
Kvesic has now scored five tries in 11 senior appearances for Warriors, including a try against Nottingham last Saturday, and has been praised by Head Coach Richard Hill for the manner in which he has forced his way into the senior side this campaign.
He said: “We have been delighted with Matt’s continued outstanding progress for both Warriors and away with England Under-20s in the Six Nations.
“In Matt Kvesic and Jake Abbott we have two young and talented openside flankers who are keen to develop and play a big part in the coming years at Worcester Warriors.
“Matt is a very mature player with an old head on young shoulders. He has a good rugby brain and that is testament to the coaching he has been given throughout his young career.
“His attitude is absolutely first rate and he is exactly the kind of professional we want at Sixways. He is determined to push himself to the limit and improve every single day and we are very confident he has a big role to play at the Warriors.”
Kvesic said: “I’m really pleased to sign the new deal. I’d actually been waiting throughout the Six Nations campaign with England Under-20s to be able to come back and sign up. I’m excited about what the future holds for me at Warriors.
“It’s been a brilliant time for me at the club and it has all gone very fast. I came through the EPDG and AASE system with Matt Sherratt and then the Academy coaches, Andrew Stanley and Gary Meechan, have had a massive impact on me. I owe a great deal to them for where I find myself now.
“I’m now really grateful to Richard Hill and Phil Davies to be given the opportunity to play my part this year in both the league and cup games and now I want to play a big role for the club in the play-offs.
“Next year will also be a big year for me as I look to keep getting starts and improve, hopefully that will be in the Premiership.”
