Warriors set to recall the heavy artillery

Head Coach Richard Hill is ready to recall the big guns for the away clash at high flying London Welsh – with front row trio Adam Black, Chris Fortey and Tevita Taumoepeau set for call-ups.

Hill is expecting a tough game at Old Deer Park as the Warriors look to cement top spot in Pool A on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3pm).

The Sixways chief acknowledges dominance up front will be a big asset in a difficult away clash in the capital against the pumped up Exiles.

And Head Coach Hill is expected to make changes up front as he bids to do that with the experienced trio all winning starting spots.

“We will look to make few changes,” he said. “We are looking at bringing back Adam Black, Chris Fortey and Tevita Taumoepeau to start.

“We are looking to put the heavy artillery in and that will give us a bit more power – and chat – in that front row.

“We have great competition in that front row, but as you approach the semi-finals you are looking for real dominance in the scrum, the set piece and drive. Therefore we will look at the heavier pack to face London Welsh.

“It will be a tough game and close,” added Hill. “We have had a couple of hard battles with London Welsh and they are looking to top the group. They will be fighting like mad to avoid finishing second and a potential away semi-final with Cornish Pirates.

“We have got to get our strategy right and have been gradually working towards our semi-final game. You have to be a little more pragmatic now. We have a pack of forwards and set of half backs that we have picked to make sure we play the right strategy for the game.”

Meanwhile, Hill revealed he expects summer signing Errie Claassens to have a very strong game against the Warriors.

“He will want to make a good impression in front of the Worcester supporters and in front of ourselves,” smiled Hill. “When you are playing against potential team-mates you want to create the right impression.

“The type of person Errie Claassens is, as people will find out, is very honest and massively loyal. I will imagine he will give it everything he can to make sure London Welsh win. I wouldn’t expect anything less from him.

“I expect he will aim to have a sparkling game, but he is one of the players we have identified to try and keep quiet.”
