Boss wants Sixways packed for semi

Boss Richard Hill urged Worcester fans to pack out Sixways and roar the Warriors on in the play-offs – after his team secured a home semi-final with a nerve-shredding 22-20 victory over London Welsh.

Top spot in Pool A is now guaranteed for Warriors and they must now wait to discover who they will welcome to Sixways on Saturday, April 30 for the last four shoot-out.

However, full ticketing details will be announced on Monday and Hill has called on supporters to make home advantage count in what is sure to be a tension packed afternoon on home soil.

“We just about did enough against London Welsh to get the win and that gets us a home semi-final, which means on Monday morning we can start getting the tickets on sale and get that place packed out,” smiled Hill.

“We have had good wins on out home ground so coming away it was going to be tight. We are relieved to get the win and look forward to a home game in the semi-finals.

“It was tense towards the end at Old Deer Park and we all felt it. The pulse was racing but that it what cup rugby is all about. That is what any semi-final would be about – it is about pressure rugby

“We needed to be on our home patch in the last four and you can see how much tension there was against Welsh – imagine a semi-final! To get the home game is big relief. Now we will wait and see who we play.”

Warriors now prepare for a home fixture with Bristol Rugby in the last group game in the RFU Championship play-off stages this coming on Saturday (kick-off 3pm).

And Hill has vowed to field his strongest team and go in all guns blazing as Worcester look to finish the pool stages with the best qualifying record. The team with the best qualifying record from Pool A and B can select when to play at home in any potential two-legged final.

“We haven’t taken any injuries against London Welsh, which is good,” added Hill. “The ground was very hard and there will be some sore bodies, no doubt.

“The idea will be to put the full team out next weekend against Bristol and then put a different 15 out in the British & Irish Cup at Bedford.

“I will stick with that plan, we will make them go once more before they can have a rest and we can start to prepare for the RFU Championship semi-final.”
