Boss Richard Hill was delighted to secure a tense opening day victory over Sale Sharks on home soil – and believes claiming a first win in the top-flight will settle his Warriors into the Aviva Premiership campaign.
A score from Miles Benjamin and a Penalty try ensured the Warriors, who produced a sensational forward display, won on the opening day of a top-flight season for the first time ever.
Head Coach Hill admitted big games nerves had played a part in a ferocious opening half, but was pleased how his team settled into the game.
“The win will settle us down. We knew if we didn’t start with a win then coming into work next week would be tough.
“No-one is quite sure what to expect the first game back in the Aviva Premiership, there are nerves and that is natural, that is why we made some mistakes. But we are firmly back and we will be a little bit more relaxed next week.
“Worcester normally has a pretty decent record against Gloucester so we look forward to next week. It’s a big local derby and it is a very difficult place to go. But we have a good record so Kingsholm will not hold many fears to us.”
Hill also praised the manner in which his Warriors adapted to life back in the top-flight in a frenetic opening half.
“You notice in the Aviva Premiership that when you lose the ball the opposition really make you pay,” he added.
“I know Sale were not a full strength by any means, which is why we had to win that game, but they still looked dangerous and showed ambition to run with the ball when they had it.
“You have to hold onto possession and use it well. That pace was fast and both teams got the ball away from the breakdown, but I was pleased with how we played the game and our approach.”
