Head Coach Richard Hill has revealed he hopes to bolster the club’s back row options in the coming days with Adam Balding and James Freeman currently ruled out.
Hill has been left with Kai Horstmann as his only Number Eight option with Freeman suffering a long-term ACL knee injury and Balding also currently on the sidelines.
“We are limited at the moment and Adam Balding is carrying an injury so we are down to Kai Horstmann,” said Hill.
“We are looking at that seriously and I think we are going to have to make an addition to that back row for the rest of the season.
“If all goes well we might get some news in the next few days. We have got one genuine option that we are looking at and if all goes well, there is a bit of work to do yet, I am hoping to finalise a deal in the coming days.
“James Freeman looks like he will be out for four to six months,” added Hill. “He did it against Pirates and was obviously in a lot of pain, but stayed on for two scrums and tried to dig in and continue on playing. He is such a tough kid.
“Even over the next 24 hours he was saying he would be okay in a couple of days. He refused to accept he was badly injured as he is a tough character.
“James is going to be a very good player for this club one day and I have no doubt about that. He will now spend a few months in the gym and build up his power. I like him and his attitude is spot on, if you have 15 blokes like him on the pitch then you won’t go far wrong.”
The Warriors boss is keeping the identity of the potential target under wraps while talks continue, but admitted that new Recruitment Consultant Thinus Delport had played a part in the possible signing.
“Thinus is very busy and is taking it on really well. He is very dedicated and thorough,” concluded Hill.
“We are trying to get him across to the World Cup and we will get they sorted in the coming days, he will meet a lot of people for us. I am pleased with his appointment and it has taken that work off me and allowed me to focus on other areas.
“Thinus has been involved in the Number Eight target. What he is very good at is getting character references from people from the country this player is from.”
