Coach pleased by Carlisle’s progress

Head Coach Richard Hill has praised the improving form of fly half Joe Carlisle after his sparkling appearance off the bench against London Wasps.

Academy product Carlisle won praise from the Sixways boss after his 40-minute home performance as he calmly kicked Warriors into a 12-9 lead before late drama saw Warriors have to settle for a losing bonus point.

Hill also believes that working with Defence Coach Phil Larder had benefitted Carlisle as he prepares his team for the crunch clash at Newcastle Falcons on Friday night.

He said: “I was pleased with Joey’s all-round game – our attack looked very sharp as soon as he came on and he was bringing people into the game.

“He certainly kicked well out of hand for most of his kicks and put us in position behind their wings and, of course, his goal-kicking was 100 per cent with some difficult chances.

“Also, Phil Larder was happy his defence – he has certainly became a better defender since Phil has been working with him.

“Joe is improving in all aspects of his game and playing with a lot of composure, so the chances are he will have his opportunity at Newcastle.

“He also put some nice kicks in and just took his chance when he came on – things started to click for him and we looked better. I have made my mind up who will start at fly half on Friday, but I won’t say just yet.”
