Davies optimistic over injured star duo

Forwards Coach Phil Davies has spoken of his optimism over the injuries suffered by key duo Matt Kvesic and Matt Mullan.

Back row ace Kvesic was stretchered off against Exeter Chiefs last weekend with an ankle injury and joined prop Matt Mullan who was forced off the week before with a shoulder injury against Bath Rugby.

Both players have been on the treatment table at Sixways and undergoing assessment to pinpoint damage and Davies revealed both were now making good progress.

“We have certainly had a few bangs over the last few weeks, particularly in the forwards, but everyone is in good hands and are slowly working their way back,” he revealed.

“There are no timescales at the moment, but what we do know it what things aren’t as bad, across the board, as they could have been.

“Matt Kvesic’s ankle is not as bad as we thought, which is great news and the recovery time is shorter. However, we are not sure over times yet, as it has just been a few days since he injured it.

“Matt Mullan is the same, he is in good shape and the shoulder is excellent. Again he will be back sooner rather than later.

“We are getting back to full fitness which is great with players like Balders (Adam Balding) and Kai (Horstmann) also working hard. We would rather not have them injured, or course, but that is the way it is and we must deal with it.

“The medical team is working overtime at the moment and are doing a top job. As the weeks progress now the timescales will become a bit more apparent. It is not good, you want everyone fit, but people are progressing nicely.”

Meanwhile, Davies revealed the club remained in talks with potential recruitment targets.

“In terms of new recruits, there is nothing more to say right at this moment,” he added.

“Recruitment is a 12 months of the year job and we are constantly looking at retaining people and recruiting people.

“It is on-going and at the moment I can’t say anyone is coming in. But we do know that Richard Muagututia is coming back shortly from Australia which is great for us.”
